What kind of education will future doctors/hospital workers need?

One really interesting card that Rachel pointed out to me called for a new kind of college degree that would better prepare people for new roles needed to reinvent the hospital.

There had already been quite a bit discussion in an earlier chain discussing what these new roles could be:

… as well as some interesting suggestions for who could fill these roles, including the patient’s family and community members.

  1. Gwenmarie Hilleary says:

Healthcare Guides will be needed for communities and neighborhoods for general public health. When serious illness occurs, the ill would be transferred into virtual medical communities who would have specialized guides and physicians that would be with the ill person through crisis.

The Guides will be skilled as nurses, able to educate, capable of bringing a variety of technologies to the home bedside and able to direct post surgical caregivers that could follow a patient on a short term basis back to their home after surgery.

Also technicans in medical techology centers will be needed for remote monitoring and status reporting using home based technologies .
